Gordon B. Hinckley

During the past two and a half years, I have photographed LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley on three occasions: his 95th birthday celebration, during last April's General Conference and at the dedication of his new visitor and alumni center at BYU.

On Sunday night, Hinckley passed away. He was 97. As you can imagine, this is major news here in Salt Lake City. I got the call to go down to Temple Square to see if anyone would congregate to lay flowers, pray, sing, light candles, etc... There were only a dozen or so people walking around the temple when I first arrived at 9pm. By 11, the crowd increased to over a hundred, many of whom were singing and lighting candles in remembrance of Hinckley.

This is going to be a historic week with a public viewing on Thursday and Friday, and the funeral service on Saturday.

2007 Pictures of the Year.

With the advent of contest season, I have been reviewing and editing my pictures from the past year. I am not very eloquent when it comes to talking about photography, but if you are interested, have a look at the following slide show.

Portland

I went to Portland last weekend to spend some time with friends as we gathered to show our favorite pictures from 2007. You can read more about Photo Night at Rob and Chip's blog. I saw many incredible pictures and stories, and even got to spend a day skiing at Mt. Hood. Here is a slide show from the weekend (please excuse the quality of the cellphone pictures near the end..)

Sol's Visit

My friend Sol came through town the other week on a whirl-wind tour that took him to Evel Knievel's funeral in Butte, Montana to snow polo in Aspen, Col. Check out his work on his blog HERE.

To give him a little taste of life in the land of salty-water and Latter-Day Saints, we visited the following locations:

Temple Square
Ogden Hot Springs
Wasatch Brewery in Park City
O'Shucks/Ahh Sushi
Snowbird

You can see some pictures from our adventures in the gallery below.
